My motto:

I understand God does not give me more than I can handle,
I just wish He wouldn't trust me so much!

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd update you all on little Sawyer. I took her back to the doctor last Wednesday because she still was very gassy, fussy, colicky, etc... and they put her on Nutramigin formula. (Which is about $30 a can!! Twice as expensive as the others.) So far, I'm not entirely impressed. She seems to eat better with little to no gas BUT, she is now spitting up, is constipated, is STILL colicky AND is back to sleeping for 2-3 hour stints throughout the night... Ugh! I'm hoping it just hasn't kicked in yet - but am thinking I should have noticed a difference in the colic behavior within the first few days. (Since that's what I've read on just about every website.) No such luck yet. If anything, it's made it worse. :( Discouraging...

Yesterday was a very disappointing day. She screamed & bawled the majority of the day, threw up several times after feedings & then was up 4 times last night. I made an appointment with a pediatrician in North Platte. Unfortunately the first time she had available for new patients, was next Wednesday. So... guess we'll be waiting it out 'til then. Am just hoping she has some different ideas. Or possibly an ANSWER! I'm getting really nervous & frustrated as my maternity leave is ending in a little over a week, and now poor Laura (our daycare provider) will have to be burdened with this Monday thru Thursday. I just really don't want to leave my baby when she obviously doesn't feel good.

Please keep us in your prayers. Will update more next week after her appt. Hope to have better news then.

Hangin' in there... by a thread,
Sarah

Sarah,
"This too shall pass..." I know these are not very comforting words, but trust me - it will pass. And the very fact that you are asking for prayers will in itself be of comfort to you. Know that we are ALL praying for little Sawyer and for you - the person she needs the most to be "sane" and be there for her.
Take care - and I love you lots. Call when you need a break!
Love ya,
Mom

I concur with your mother on the calling us when you need a break. No problem whatsoever. Just call. Seriously. No...seriously...

I need something to do anyway!

You don't know me but I saw your blog on Jamie Weiss's Blogsite and my second daughter had all those same symptoms and we did the $30 formula and we found out she had Pediatric Acid Reflux and she was on medicine 3 times a day for 6 months and she was fine. (Generic Prilosec). She was a whole different child in 2 days.

Sarah - It may not feel like it, but asking for prayers, and for help is a sign of humble strength, not weakness. Those of us who care about you guys can add our prayers to make that thread you hang onto a big thick rope. I really like your motto, too! God knows you can do it, with family, friends and His help. You are loved.

I would give the nutramigin about a week. I didn't notice much change in Addison for around 2 weeks. She was on the Simalac brand-Alimentum and we just got her switched over to soy a month ago so I feel your pain about expensive formula. It took the doctors about 3 months to finally get things figured out for Addison but I got to the point that I made the doctor feed her and see how she behaved and that's when they realized she had bad acid reflux. I know it's so hard to see her in pain and you don't know what's wrong. I keep thinking about that with Addison, for 3 months she was so miserable and nobody could tell me what was wrong except I had a colicky baby which was not true. Let me know if you questions. Thinking of you guys always.
